Christians in China have long suffered persecutiont. Under Mao Zedong, freedom of belief was enshrined in the new Communist constitution (largely to accommodate Muslims and Tibetan Buddhists in the west of the country). Yet perhaps as many as half a million Christians were harried to death, and tens of thousands more were sent to labour camps. Since the death of Mao in 1976, the party has slowly allowed more religious freedom. Most of the churches in Wenzhou are so-called “Three Self” churches, of which there are about 57,000 round the country. These, in the official jargon, are
self-supporting, self-governed and self-propagating (independent) (therefore closed to foreign influence)
Christianity is hard to control in China, and getting harder all the time. It is spreading rapidly, and infiltrating the party’s own ranks. The line is blurring between house churches and official ones, and Christians are starting to emerge from hiding to play a more active part in society.
It is hard even to guess at the number of Christians in China. Official surveys seek to play down the figures, ignoring the large number who worship in house churches. By contrast, overseas Christian groups often inflate them. There were perhaps 3m Catholics and 1m Protestants when the party came to power in 1949. Officials now say there are between 23m and 40m, all told. In 2010 the Pew Research Centre, an American polling organisation, estimated there were 58m Protestants and 9m Catholics.
Many experts, foreign and Chinese, now accept that there are probably more Christians than there are members of the 87m-strong Communist Party. Most are evangelical Protestants.
Predicting Christianity’s growth is even harder. Yang Fenggang of Purdue University, in Indiana, says the Christian church in China has grown by an average of 10% a year since 1980. He reckons that on current trends there will be 250m Christians by around 2030, making China’s Christian population the largest in the world.
Mr Yang says this speed of growth is similar to that seen in fourth-century Rome just before the conversion of Constantine, which paved the way for Christianity to become the religion of his empire.In other regions local leaders lend support, or turn a blind eye, because they find that Christians are good citizens. Their commitment to community welfare helps to reinforce precious stability. In some large cities the government itself is sponsoring the construction of new Three Self churches: Chongyi church, in Hangzhou, can seat 5,000 people. Three Self pastors are starting to talk to house-church leaders; conversely, house-church leaders (often correctly) no longer consider official churches to be full of party stooges.
In 2013 a group of Chinese intellectuals convened a conference in Oxford which brought together, for the first time, thinkers from the New Left, whose members want to retain some of the egalitarian parts of Maoism; the New Confucians, who want to promote more of China’s traditional philosophical thinking; and the New Liberals, classic economic and political liberals. For the first time Christian intellectuals were included as well. The gathering produced a document, called the Oxford Consensus, emphasising that the centre of the Chinese nation is the people, not the state; that culture should be pluralistic; and that China must always behave peacefully towards others. This was not overtly Christian, but it was significant that Christian intellectuals had been included. A summary of the meeting was published in an influential Chinese newspaper,
Southern People, and most participants continue to live freely, if cautiously, in China.
The paradox, as they all know, is that religious freedom, if it ever takes hold, might harm the Christian church in two ways. [The church might become institutionalised, wealthy and hence corrupt, as happened in Rome in the high Middle Ages], and is already happening a little in the businessmen’s churches of Wenzhou. Alternatively the church, long strengthened by repression, may become a feebler part of society in a climate of toleration. As one Beijing house-church elder declared, with a nod to the erosion of Christian faith in western Europe: “If we get full religious freedom, then the church is finished.”

The Lord has opened doors for the gospel in this country. And, no doubt, the Serpent, the Dragon will not be far behind. The comparison here with Rome is very fitting, because in Pagan Rome, although the Christians were persecuted, their numbers grew exponentially and sooner than later the Devil created the beast and the harlot to stealthily persecute the True church (Revelation 12). The Dragon put on the robe of the Maiden (Mary/Sophia/The Church) and went on to slaughter the true seed of the woman. The church elder is partially right, if religious freedom comes, the one who will take the power over the earthly Kingdom of China will be the Satanic Catholic curia already present there. . . . as in the times of Pagan Rome:There is a remarkable passage in Tertullian’s
Apology, that may serve to justify the sense which Protestants put upon
these verses; and since it was written long before the accomplishment of
the predictions, it deserves the more attention. “Christians,” says he, “are

continued state of the empire; because we know that dreadful power
which hangs over the world, and the conclusion of the age, which threatens
the most horrible evils, is restrained by the continuance of the time

to the perpetuity of the Roman state.”
In his attempt in sealing China for the gospel of Christ, Satan has spared no effort.- China's communist government has been created to suppress true christianity along with the catholicism with the expectation that once this freezer is defrosted the superior political influence of Catholicism would prevail and create a very strong central state church, subject to the Vatican, and the "sects" will be persecuted to oblivion.

This is a brief introduction to the development and beliefs of the Eastern Lightning cult in China. We wish to expose its evil nature, and present its reality to the world.
The Eastern Lightning cult was founded by Zhao Wei Shan in A Cheng in Hei Long Jiang province in 1989. Zhao used to be a member of a denomination called the Shouters. He later broke away with a group of people, and started a new sect called "Church of the Everlasting Foundation," calling himself "The Powerful One." Later on he joined with a woman named Deng in He Nan province. He began to call her "The Almighty God" - the female Christ in the flesh - and the name of the sect was at that time changed to "The Church of the True God." The last name they have adopted for themselves is "The Eastern Lightning" which was taken from Matthew 24:27 in the Bible. At the present time, they have penetrated over 20 provinces in China; they have over a million followers and are attacking and greatly damaging Christian house churches in China.
Antichrist Belief:
The EL denies the Christian faith and the authority of the Bible. They deny the truths of the triune God, salvation through the crucifixion of Christ as well as justification by faith.
Their teaching divides God's work into three stages:
1. The Era of the Law. At this time God was called Jehovah. God worked through His Spirit and revealed Himself to man in different ways: what He said was the Law, and He spoke to men through prophets. Man's responsibility was to observe the Law, but man failed in keeping the Law, and couldn't overcome sin.
2. The Era of Grace. Then God's name changed to Jesus. He revealed Himself to man through the incarnation, and spoke and worked in His physical body. Man's responsibility was to know and believe in Jesus, but instead of believing in Jesus, people who lived in that era condemned and rejected Him.
3. Now is the Era of the Kingdom. God's name is now "The Almighty One" and "the Practical God." Their teaching is that God is a spirit and thus is vague. Although Jesus had been a man, He has already been resurrected and has ascended to Heaven, so He is also vague and distant. Therefore, it is not "practical" to rely on them. The female Christ, however, is here on the earth, doing practical work such as speaking, judging, condemning etc. She is tangible, more substantial, and therefore calls herself a "Practical God." Thus, in the female Christ, God is dwelling in the flesh for the second time. Her work is to reveal God's righteous nature, to speak to mankind, to speak judgments to God's house, to conquer the whole universe, to bring destruction to the world, and to reign over all the earth. The EL has replaced Jehovah the true God with this "Practical God," they have replaced Jesus with their female Christ, and they have replaced the Word of God in the Bible with words spoken by their "Almighty God." Now the responsibility of man is to follow the female Christ, and only if he forsakes his faith in Jesus Christ, tears his Bible in public, calls himself a "son of the devil," is "conquered" by fully submitting himself to the spoken words of the female Christ and thus becomes a "victorious one," can he enter the Kingdom that will be established on the earth by the female Christ.

- The Age of the Holy Spirit, impending (in 1260), when mankind was to come in direct contact with God, reaching the total freedom preached by the Christian message. The Kingdom of the Holy Spirit, a new dispensation of universal love, would proceed from the Gospel of Christ, but transcend the letter of it. In this new Age the ecclesiastical organization would be replaced and the Order of the Just would rule the Church. This Order of the Just was later identified with the Franciscan order by his follower Gerardo of Borgo San Donnino.
