Augustine a mastermind of provokatsiya

note: It is straight absurd that dissenters/non-comformists or schismatics from the Catholic or the national Churches hold Augustine in so high regard. Augustine, if he was alive at the time of the reformation and since, would have surely burned at the stake all those reformed calvinist  protestants, not to mention the puritans, who so credulously worship this pen of the infernal majesty.

Circumcellions

The Circumcellions or Agonisticis[1][2] (as called by Donatists) were bands of Berbers considered as heretical[3] Christian extremists in North Africa in the early- to mid-4th century.[4] They were initially concerned with remedying social grievances, but they became linked with the Donatist sect.[4]
...the Circumcellions would attack random travelers on the road, while shouting "Laudate Deum!" ("Praise God!" in Latin.)...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumcellions

The  profile of the radical muslims was a concept in Augustine's head 200 years before Muhammad became the prophet of Islam. :

1. They were fanatical about martyrdom to the point of suicidal attacks.
2. They were fervently anti-Roman (Catholic).
3. They killed and maimed random people with shocking brutality.
4. They upheld strict legalistic rule in all their territories (as Sharia law)
5. They had a God-glorifying shout in battle (and martyrdom?) see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takbir

But....did they really exist, or were they only in the head of Augistine, who was just a shameless slanderer of epic proportions:

HISTORY OF THE DONATISTS

*********

CHAPTER 12
The Donatists Were Accused of a Confederacy
with the Circumcellions

.....But nowhere, except in the original Latin, have I seen any mention of them, in any manner.......

...............It is a fact worthy of notice that in all Augustine's descriptions of the foul deeds ascribed to the Circumcellions, whether by themselves or in the reputed company of the Donatists, that he has never mentioned one name, nor the time, nor place, nor any of the circumstances connected with their lawless transactions........................

http://www.reformedreader.org/history/benedict/donatists/ch12.htm

And if they existed... what was their purpose if not PROVOKATSIYA, a false flag, to proke a retaliation that would vanquish the North african revolt of the largely pacifist donatists?

The mere fact that so little has been written on and by this major "protestant" movement should raise eyebrows in those who call themselves true christians.

  2. Doug, my wife got saved by that verse you claim was changed/added by Rome. She believed in reincarnation for a long time by reading different material from Buddhist religion to "alternative" gospels.

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

The book of Hebrews destroys catholic sacramentalism (the eucharist - the sacrifice of Jesus on the altar every day - see Heb 7:27; 9:12, 24-26; 10:10,12), so I see no reason they should use that book specifically when it goes against one of their major salvific doctrines. They try to get around it, but can't.

The doctrine of the resurrection, which is a great promise, precludes and speculation of reincarnation, even in the OT the eternal resurrection and damnation were believed and expected as ends for the two classes of men - the godly believers and the ungodly (Ps 11:16; 17:15 ; 89:29; Job 10:21; 18:14-21; 19:25-26 and others)

We had this discussion with avles that the Catholic church actually DEFENDED many solid doctrines like the trinity to present itself the champion and pillar of christendom, while it insidiously buried biblical salvation. It was the cunningness of the devil to uphold certain scriptural truths, but cleverly cover the shining gem of the pure unadulterated faith in the gospel under a mountain of vain traditions. Rome is happy to agree with anyone on anything except the doctrine of salvation and the primacy of the papacy. Now, unlike Christ, RCC uses the fear of death to control, blacmail people, but Christ actually removes that fear with assurance of our salvation (Mark 4:40; Luke 10:20; Rom 8:33; John 8:32; 20:31; 1 John 1:4; 4:18; Heb 2:15 )

I must say, you are throwing the baby with the bath water on this one.

Augustine did provide some good explanations of sin, predestination and the trinity. However people are mistaken to view his understanding of grace as biblical, he just said "look, there is no salvation outside the church, therefore we must get everyone in, even by violent means" . Most importantly, he was of a persecuting spirit and used deception and corruption of scripture to build an ecclesiology that propelled the Harlot church.

Many bible colleges started out fine, by good baptist pastors and teachers, but in the last 50-60 years they all degenerated to RCC's biblical skepticism and ecumenism.

Yes, and i firmly believe this was due to the pressure of the great part of apostolic Christians; the new Catholic church had to calm down and accept some Christian doctrine in order to avoid to be exposed as a work of the pagan intelligence.
Just look how the Milan's church expelled the emissaries of Rome's bishop, if i m not wrong, in the 4 th century.

  3. A "man" is the sum of a body and spirit. Thereby yes a "man" dies once, and as a man is a sum of body and spirit, that does not deny reincarnation. That it is so read against reincarnation is but a prime example of the dominant cryto-Romanism that is also seen in such publications as 'Gospel of Liberty' which was neither with how they so sold out to Rome on the pharmacratic inquisition.

The Buddhists don't recognize reincarnation of whole spirits, rather they believe in spirits breaking apart and recombining into new ones, which is something that I don't accept.

Nor do I accept the Buddhist faith. For one thing it is way to into repetitious prayers and idolatry. And I have seen too many people involved with it behave as if possessed by demons, including a sister of mine who is extremely intolerant of people who don't agree with her, in such things as practically worshiping Yoko Ono and Gloria Steinem- all of who I suspect joined some 'club' to get such devotion. My sister has even at times exclaimed that Gloria Steinen was a lie against women, but then will revert back to her previous adoration of her, as if affected by some strange magic.

"Now, unlike Christ, RCC uses the fear of death to control, blackmail people, but Christ actually removes that fear with assurance of our salvation"

    Agreed.

So what about all the people that would get turned away from Jesus because of the Inquisition-Counter Reformation- crytpto Romanist 'Baptists' etc?

Would God simply grant them only one incarnation?

Or rather more, so that more people, or perhaps everyone is alive during the latter days.

    1. "So what about all the people that would get turned away from Jesus because of the Inquisition-Counter Reformation- crytpto Romanist 'Baptists' etc?"

There are features of modern fundamentalism that i dont agree with and that is that. Paul himself said that "For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more." In that respect of the ministry many christians, more often than not baptist, fail miserably. On the other hand, modern "evangelicalism" has become using liberty " for an occasion to the flesh ". The truth in matters of liberty is somewhere between those two - rigid, ultrasceptical, backwards legalism of SOME baptists and the lax, lawless, lackadaisical, sin embracing spirit of modern mass evangelicalism. Much discernment is required to achieve that balance, but that is not a pursuit of primary importance. A few bad apples don't make the basket bad.

And If those inconsiderate baptists turn away folks from Christ, well, if those folks are to be saved, they WILL get saved one way or the other, because they will take the leading hand of the Spirit unto Christ. No true christians preaches himself or his Church or his legal code of service, but in the first place Christ and Him crucified. A dishonest person will be the first to flee from God's gospel with the justification of the bad conduct or standards (in our case closedmindedness) of his messengers. I've seen many flee a tyranical church, but remain in the gospel and good faith in the bible. If a man goes away from Christ, due to a disillusionment with a pastor or a church or even a denomination, that man was never one of Christ's own.

We use the term baptist to simply describe a type of christian who has no romish baggage. That is all. I don't agree with most baptists on many things, but still call myself baptist for the sake of clarity, that is our "name" in this age.

      Matthew 22:14
For many are called, but few are chosen.

The doctrine of predestination and election are tough to swallow, ONLY if you are on the side of uncertainty, i.e. if you don't believe in Christ wholly/ are not born again of the Spirit. What concerns every human being first and foremost is to "receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Him."

But you must first, by faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross, where he shed his blood for you, turn that fear of eternal punishment in the clean and pure love and humbling fear of a child to His father. There may be no time to postpone that.

    3. ''Would God simply grant them only one incarnation?''.

Why God does need of more incarnations for a single soul? it would mean that God's work is a failure, therefore that God is not God.
You cannot repent of sins you are not aware to have sinned, as the ones of an alleged past wife. But hypocritally you can boast of ''good actions'' of your past lives, and the ''good works'' are at the basis of the cathechism of Coucil of Trent.

How sad that we hear Augustine praised in so many Baptist churches today. He was the enemy of truth and the cause of thousands of Donatists (and Baptists later on) being martyred. Benedict lists several writers from among the Donatists who opposed him. Get his book if possible. Mine is not for sale. "

  6. Interesting consideration by a commenter about the Augustine's slanders:

    candle says:

Speaking as a lurking heresiologist, redirected here from Making Light, I have to say that the picture of the circumcellions is pretty unlikely. I haven’t read Brent Shaw’s chapter as linked to above, but AFAIK all the stories about the circumcellions derive from Augustine and Optatus of Milevis, who were not exactly the most impartial witnesses.
So the image of the circumcellions looks to me like a confection of exactly the kind of thing you would say about the bandits on the road from Hippo to Carthage, especially if they were associated with a church that you were desperate to portray as fanatical (because they regarded the Catholics as unreasonably lax), and especially if it was in your interest to make them seem lower-class and uneducated and generally risible.
Aha: here is a different version of Brent Shaw’s piece, which adds more sources only to dismiss them, but which otherwise says much the same thing.
I don’t know about the “Israelites” thing, though.
    candle says:

Sorry to post again: having read Brent Shaw’s piece more closely it strikes me that his dismissal of the Augustinian De Haeresibus looks rather like special pleading. I don’t think that the argument will work that it was, in effect, written by Augustine in a fit of absence of mind. Clearly he actively wanted to present circumcellions as suicidal fanatics.
The explanation is probably in his Letter 185, in which he is setting out to defend the use of judicial coercion in converting Donatists to the “Catholic” church. (See especially paragraph 23.) To make this argument work – and it evidently caused disquiet at the time, or he wouldn’t have had to write and preserve the letter – he needs to establish the Donatists as not only heretics but also criminals. So first of all he links them with the omnipresent bandits on the roads of North Africa, who may well have been Donatists if only because it was a popular cause, especially among the less Romanised population. Then he needs to neutralise the powerful claim that the Donatists have to be a rigorous church of martyrs (which was already part of their claim, and was about to get a lot of fuel with judicial trials raising the spectre of the Great Persecution again). This was best done by defining what they did as not martyrdom but suicide – and making it self-evidently pointless and ludicrous.
So Augustine is faced with a potential martyr church with popular support among the lower classes; and he is trying to justify a policy of judicial coercion, to a man (Count Boniface) who is obviously a high-ranking Roman official (even if North African in origin). It seems to me that these are precisely the terms in which you would most effectively portray them. And even then, Augustine is forced to rely on telling stories without giving any real details, and which (in one case) he frankly admits are little more than rumours. I doubt you could have found a single contemporary “circumcellion” who would have fitted the description.
Of course, none of this is amenable to proof and you may prefer to trust Augustine. But it looks to me that the whole modern image comes from a very credulous, and to my mind implausible, reading of the evidence. And this is stuff I care about.
So you probably didn’t want all this here, and the myth is fun in itself, but I thought it might be worth saying.

North Africa, fourth century AD. Black cloaked peasant vigilantes lived around, some say lived off, the Churches, calling themselves not Agnostics, but Agonistics ("fighters for Christ"). Their detractors called them "circumcellions" — Holy scroungers. They had some cool radical ideas — freeing slaves, canceling debts, challenging Roman Imperium. They tended the martyrs graves; indeed martyrdom was very much their special subject — the way into heaven, the Christian's birthday, that kind of thing.

Unfortunately Christianity was now the state church. This posed problems for circumcellions. How could you get martyred now the whole world had gone SOFT? [damned tongue of Satan this Alan Wilson, a bloody liar and deceiver, a denier of the Catholic persecutions] Some would rush onto the stage during innocuous pagan festivals and demand that the bemused crowd martyr them. Unfortunately the pagan crowds often just fell about laughing....etc etc.

  7. Other interesting source - Circumcelliones as a fabrication in order to neutralize the reproaches of Donatists against Catholics for the age of Macarious:

    http://www.pbministries.org/History/David%20Benedict/donatists_12.htm

" The concessions of Augustine to Donatist bishops, by their tenor and implication were sufficient to neutralize all his charges of the confederacy of the Donatists with the Circumcellions in all sorts of crimes. But the following concession is still more to the point: You, said Augustine, complain loudly of Macarius and Macarian times; and we do the same of the Circumcellions.5 That the design in this announcement was an offset in reproaches, on the principle of retaliation, is sufficiently plain on the face of the terms, but Augustine elsewhere said, that while the Donatists reproached his people with Macarian times, he would reproach them with the wicked and savage deeds of the Circumcellions.

As Augustine has never given his readers any detailed accounts of the bad men, a late historian has described them in the following terms: "They were lawless ruffians, the refuse of Africa, of no sect and probably of no faith." Such is the description of the Circumcellions by Waddington in his Church History, a clergyman of the English church, who was well acquainted with all ancient church history, and who does not appear to have been partial to the Donatists, as a dissenting community."
