How Pope Francis could help Obama on the Iranian deal

Popes generally use their Easter Urbi et Orbi address, “to the city and the world,” to pray for peace amid global conflicts. Francis followed that tradition on Sunday, among other things commenting on a tentative nuclear deal between the P5+1 nations, including the United States, and Iran.
The pontiff said, “In hope we entrust to the merciful Lord the framework recently agreed to in Lausanne, that it may be a definitive step toward a more secure and fraternal world.”
That may not amount to a direct endorsement, but it’s certainly more favorable than the commentary coming from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Republicans in Congress about the outline for an accord reached April 2 in Switzerland, not to mention Iranian hardliners who see it as a threat to their national interests. (On Monday, Israel backed off its insistence that Iran halt all uranium enrichment, a move seen as acknowledgement that the pact required concessions on all sides.)

US President Barack Obama could have problems mustering legislative support for a deal, in part because Republicans may want to make an issue out of it in 2016. At the same time, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hasn’t yet explicitly embraced the agreement, and a political movement called “We Are Anxious,” founded last year to oppose nuclear concessions, is campaigning against it.
The Associated Press reported that roughly 200 hardliners rallied in front of the Iranian parliament building on Tuesday during hearings on the agreement, brandishing banners calling it a “defeat.”
Moderates on both sides of the divide, in other words, may struggle to bring along the hawks in their own shops. In that effort, the Vatican could turn out to be a surprisingly potent resource.

First of all, Pope Francis has plenty of political capital at the moment because of his high approval ratings and perceptions of his moral authority. He also has a proven capacity to translate that capital into results, as his role in restoring relations between the United States and Cuba illustrates.
If Francis were to lend his seal of approval to the nuclear deal, even campaigning for it in the oblique but unmistakable way popes sometimes do on political matters, it could move the needle in terms of public opinion.
On a more long-term basis, the Vatican may be the global institution with the best shot at rebuilding trust between Iran and the West.

Iran is a pervasively religious society whose ultimate authority is a cleric, and to get to the heart of things, one has to be able to engage them not just in terms of realpolitik, but also spiritual concepts. No Western statesman can do that credibly, but the Vatican can.
Moreover, there’s a natural affinity between Catholicism and Shi’a Islam, which is the minority branch of the Muslim world, but the culture-shaping majority in Iran.
Iranian writer Vali Nasr, author of the 2006 book, “The Shia Revival,” argues that the divide between Sunni and Shi’a bears comparison to that between Protestants and Catholics, with Shi’a being the branch closer to Catholicism.

Among the features of Shi’a Islam that parallel Catholicism are:

• A strong emphasis on clerical authority
• An approach to the Qur’an accenting both scripture and tradition
• A deep mystical streak
• Devotion to a holy family (in the case of Shi’ites, the blood relatives of Muhammad) and to saints (the Twelve Imams)
• A theology of sacrifice and atonement through Hussein, who married the daughter of Muhammad and led the early Shi’a community, and is venerated for his death in the battle of Karbala
• Belief in free will (as opposed to the Sunni doctrine of pre-destination)
• Holy days, pilgrimages, and healing shrines
• Intercessory prayer
• Strongly emotional forms of popular devotion

As Nasr points out, anyone who’s ever watched a Good Friday procession in, say, Mexico or the Philippines, including people who flagellate themselves and even have themselves nailed to crosses to recall Christ’s crucifixion, will be struck by the eerie similarities with the Shi’a festival of Ashoura commemorating Hussein’s martyrdom.
Fellow Iranian writer Reza Aslan says that rational interpretation of Islamic law by Shi’ite clergy creates a flexibility sometimes lacking in Sunni Islam, which is often shackled to a literal reading of the Qur’an. Aslan believes Shi’a-influenced societies may be more amenable to experimentation with democracy, human rights, and pluralism, provided they’re grounded in religious reasoning — just as in Catholic social theory.
Benedictine Rev. Mark Serna, a veteran of Catholic/Islamic exchange, has written that “in distinction to Muslims in the Sunni tradition, Shi’ite Muslims are very natural dialogue partners with Roman Catholics.”
This isn’t to say the Vatican is uncritical in its approach to Iran. Above all, Pope Francis has become increasingly outspoken about anti-Christian violence, and Iran’s ambiguous relationship with radical forces that often target Christians and other minorities is a source of burning concern.
Yet the Vatican nonetheless favors keeping lines of communication open, and the interest is clearly reciprocated by Tehran. Diplomatic relations between Iran and the Holy See date to 1954, making them 30 years older than US/Vatican ties, and the Iranian embassy to the Holy See is well-known in Rome for its large staff and activist spirit.
When Vatican and Iranian officials sit down, they speak a common language shaped by shared spiritual and theological concepts.
In a small but telling sign, Italian Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, who heads the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Family, recently met with a delegation of high-level Iranian women including Shahindokht Molaverdi, vice-president for women and family affairs. When the Iranians floated the idea of attending the upcoming World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia in September, an event Pope Francis will attend, Paglia immediately embraced it.
As a result, when Francis visits the United States, he’s set to bring an Iranian delegation in his wake. Not many world leaders could wrap such a gesture into their American debut without triggering a diplomatic fracas.
(Molaverdi told Crux in February she believes Francis could play a role in opening doors. “Certainly this pope has an ability to bring people together, which can also influence governments,” she said.)
Whether opportunities for dialogue can be mobilized quickly enough to make a difference over the nuclear pact, which is supposed to be finalized by June 30, remains to be seen.
Over time, however, if Iran and the West are to find common ground, Pope Francis and his Vatican team could be a key ingredient in making it happen.

For a moment I must explain how the papacy benefits from this in another way. The jesuits have been building false interpretations of prophecy to bamboozle baptists into a diversionary eschatology of a middle east theatre. Two popular interpretations (and you can look them up for yourself) say that before the Second Coming, Russia and Iran will invade israel and attack many nations. If baptists believe that the imminent expansions of Iran-Russia are a herald of the return of Christ, they will be utterly refuted and confounded when the Second Coming does not materialise immediately after that, but neo-catholic Russia and Iran become protectors of Israel instead. Many will lose their faith after this unexpected turn of events. This is the precise reason Shoebat embraces dispensationalism for the most part (except rapturism). Baptist jesuit eschatology and the future timeline of events are designed as a domino cascade of disappointment in evangelicals alongside a confirmation of the veracity of Catholic a- or post millennialism. First, the rapture will not happen. Second, Russia and Iran will not destroy Israel. Third, Christ will not come, but the Pope and the new empire will establish world peace. And 75% of baptist churches will lose membership, because they have been caught in the craftiness of 17 century jesuits.

As for the islamic protestants, it isn't necessary that the "puritan" or "cathar" or "literalist" or "sola scriptura" sunnis are first taken out of the way. They have already have the nails on their coffin in the face of ISIS, SA, and soon - the Ottoman empire. Donatism (Latin: Donatismus, Greek: Δονατισμός Donatismos) was a Christian sect within the Roman province of Africa that flourished in the fourth and fifth centuries^[1] among Berber Christians. Donatism had its roots in the social pressures among the long-established Christian community of Roman North Africa (present-day Berber countries Algeria and Tunisia), during the persecutions of Christians under Diocletian. The Donatists (named for the Berber Christian bishop Donatus Magnus) were members of a schismatic church not in communion with the churches of the rest of Early Christianity in Late Antiquity.
Donatism was an indirect outcome of Diocletian's persecutions. The governor of Africa had been lenient towards the large Christian minority under his rule during the persecutions. He was satisfied when Christians handed over their Scriptures as a token repudiation of their faith. Some Christians acceded to this convenient action. When the persecutions came to an end, however, they were branded traditores, "those who handed (the holy things) over" by the zealous, mostly from the poorer classes.^[2]
Like the Novatianist schism of the previous century,^[3] the Donatists were rigorists, holding that the church must be a church of "saints," not "sinners," and that sacraments, such as baptism, administered by traditores were invalid. Probably in 311,^{[citation needed]} a new bishop of Carthage, Caecilian, was consecrated by someone who had allegedly been a traditor, Felix of Aptungi; his opponents consecrated a short-lived rival, who was succeeded by Donatus, after whom the schism was named.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan women's rights activists dressed head-to-toe in black broke with tradition Sunday to carry the coffin of a woman who was beaten to death by a mob in the capital Kabul over allegations she had burned a Quran.
The mob of men beat 27-year-old Farkhunda before throwing her body off a roof, running over it with a car, setting it on fire and throwing it into a river near a well-known mosque.
The attack was apparently sparked by allegations that Farkhunda, who like many Afghans has just one name, had set fire to a Quran. But Afghanistan's most senior detective said no evidence had been found to support those claims.

Dr. Furnish illustrated eschatology of ISIS with Dabiq,their English-language magazine. The name itself refers to a Syrian town where, according to a hadith (a saying by the Prophet Muhammad), a great battle will be fought, ushering in the last times. And there is more than the name. The magazine makes it clear that ISIS believes it is engaging in an end-times struggle against forces of unbelief, injustice, and evil—including Christianity. They are, in the words of Dr. Furnish’s title, “fighting for the end of the [Christian] world.”

In particular, as the Atlantic piece brings out, ISIS has an apocalyptic vision, and crucially, its adherents fervently believe in an imminent eschatology, culminating in a climactic battle against the “Romans” on the Plains of Dabiq in Syria. (Note that the latest ISIS snuff film documenting the beheading of the innocent Copts included a warning that they were coming to Rome.)

Dutch football fans rampage through Rome

Hundreds of fans of Feyenoord, the Dutch football club, clashed with armed Italian riot police in one of Rome’s most beautiful piazzas on Thursday, capping a torrid week for European football.

Police in protective helmets beat back hundreds of fans who had rampaged through the streets of central Rome before converging on the cobbled square beneath the Spanish Steps (Spanish square).

Images released by Italian media showed Dutch fans, who were in Rome for a Europa League match with the local team AS Roma, hurling bottles and stones at police. Several men were also caught on camera apparently giving the fascist salute while standing on the piazza’s central Barcaccia fountain.
Police said 20 people had been arrested and more than 10 injured during the clashes.
The clashes cap a torrid week for European football following racist comments from one of Italy’s top officials Arrigo Sacchi who said too many “coloured” players featured in Italian football.
On Tuesday, a group of English football fans attached to Chelsea FC at an away game in Paris were caught on camera blocking a black passenger from getting on a Metro train.
“Rome is devastated and injured . . . This doesn’t finish here,” Ignazio Marino, Rome’s mayor, said via Twitter. He added he was in contact with the Dutch ambassador.

Campo de' Fiori (meaning in English: Field of Flowers) is a rectangular square south of Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy, at the border between rione Parione and rione Regola. It is just diagonally southeast of the Palazzo della Cancelleria and one block northeast of the Palazzo Farnese. Campo de' Fiori, translated literally from Italian, means "field of flowers". The name was first given during the Middle Ages when the area was actually a meadow.

Executions used to be held publicly in Campo de' Fiori. Here, on 17 February 1600, the philosopher Giordano Bruno was burnt alive for heresy, and all of his works were placed on the Index of Forbidden Books by the Holy Office. In 1889 Ettore Ferrari dedicated a monument to him on the exact spot of his death: He stands defiantly facing the Vatican, reinterpreted in the first days of a reunited Italy as a martyr to freedom of thought. Giordano Bruno
(Italian: [dʒorˈdano ˈbruno]; Latin: Iordanus Brunus Nolanus; 1548 – 17 February 1600), born Filippo Bruno, was an Italian Dominican friar, philosopher, mathematician, poet, and astrologer.^[3] He is celebrated for his cosmological theories, which went even further than the then-novel Copernican model, proposing that the stars were just distant suns surrounded by their own exoplanets, and moreover the possibility that these planets could even foster life of their own (a philosophical position known as cosmic pluralism). He also insisted that the Universe is in fact infinite, thus having no celestial body at its "center"......

In addition to his cosmological writings, Bruno also wrote extensively on the art of memory, a loosely organized group of mnemonic techniques and principles. Historian Frances Yates argues that Bruno was deeply influenced by Arab astrology, Neoplatonism, Renaissance Hermeticism, and the Egyptian god Thoth.......

Very plausible that Bruno and Galileo were only jesuit puppets "shadow" martyrs. They were both "judged" by jesuit Bellarmine. The jesuits having amassed much scientific knowledge wanted to open up a new  "scientific" anti-christian front, which would propagate atheism as a denial of the maker (demiurge), but this, of course, could never happen within catholicism at that time, because that would undermine the superstitions that Rome was still using back then to further its empire and would blow away her christian cloak. Only as gnosticism from other currents became more perfused and prevalent in the world , a  reconciliation between scientism and catholicism became possible (as is now with evolutionist and alien baptising popes).

Have the anti-Crusaders ever wondered why the liberal, the Muslim and the Calvinists are all anti-Crusaders? While it is true that the Crusaders did err, the bulk of their efforts were justified.
It’s like saying that everything Protestant was bad. Is that valid? This was never discussed from the pulpits of our churches or in our Sunday school classes, except of course, and God forbid, to say that the Crusaders did some good is an anathema.

I can give several examples from Dave Hunt to John MacAurthur who blatantly stated that the Catholic Church was responsible for the death of 50,000,000 Protestants.

O, even better yet, that the Cathars are “Bible Believing Christians” and such nonsense.

After noticing the outlandish quotes like Sam’s, I attempted to investigate even further as to what historian with his sane mind would declare that the Papacy murdered 50, 60 or 100 million people. I finally found the source from a book, Who Are These Three Angels, by Jeff Wehr, P.p. 31-32:
